REWE Group invests 600 million euros in new logistics centre
by Philipp Schmitz-Waters

A milestone for security of supply, digitalisation and sustainable logistics: REWE Group is making the largest single investment by a private company in Lower Austria at 600 million euros: by 2030, a state-of-the-art logistics centre will be built in Wiener Neudorf that will set new standards in terms of efficiency, resilience and sustainability. The project is a central component of the Logistics Strategy 2030 and strengthens the entire retail infrastructure in Austria.

In future, around 2,500 locations in Austria - particularly in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland - will be supplied from the new centre. In addition to securing existing jobs, the project will create new, highly qualified jobs in areas such as IT, technology and automated logistics

Peter Maly, Peter Maly, REWE Group Board Member for Logistics and Supply Chain Management and COO Rewe: "With the new logistics centre, we are creating the infrastructural prerequisites for modern, efficient and sustainable retail. The investment is a strong commitment to the innovative strength of our Group and to the future of cooperative retail."

The project also sends out strong signals in terms of digital transformation and sustainable consumption: energy efficiency, renewable energy, circular economy and a high degree of automation are key building blocks
