EHA ONE is a new digital tool for recording energy consumption in the stores. Following a test phase, it has now been rolled out in all toom stores. The rollout is also underway in the REWE stores. What can the tool do? We spoke to the EHA managers and store managers at toom.
The new tool enables very accurate, monthly reporting for energy consumption in the market © EHA
toom has been recording the consumption of each individual shop for a long time. Previously, more than 300 meter reading sheets had to be printed each month and 2,000 meters read, the results entered manually and sent to a service provider. However, paperwork and time-consuming monthly monitoring of energy consumption are now a thing of the past: the new EHA ONE software solution enables consumption data to be read digitally by photo within a very short time, unnecessary consumption to be identified and visualised and communicated to the responsible energy managers.
EHA ONE has been rolled out in all toom stores since December 2022. In future, authorised employees will receive digital orders and be able to take photos of the meters. The system recognises and transmits the consumption values directly to EHA's energy information system, where the data is assigned to a specific consumption month and transmitted to the grid operator to ensure that only actual consumption is billed.
At the end, each branch automatically receives a monthly overview of its consumption and any deviations. In the event of major deviations, the energy managers automatically receive information about the location and impact of the deviation and can enter into a direct dialogue with the store.
Smart and digital, the new tool reduces the time required and also optimises energy consumption.
Questions for Marcus Bröhan, Product Manager, and Sebastian Geitner, Project Manager EHA ONE:
Marcus Bröhan, EHA
one: What was the motivation for the new tool?
Marcus Bröhan : Achieving climate targets and reducing energy costs are more important than ever before. To do this, it is important to monitor energy consumption regularly, because you can only control what you can measure. We have been offering ways to visualise energy consumption for some time now. In recent months, this has become more and more of an issue, particularly due to rising energy costs. We have given it some thought: What does modern energy monitoring need? And how do we combine the worlds of an energy supplier with the requirements of energy controlling? And so, together with our colleagues at toom, we revised and optimised our tools.
one: Modernised - what does that mean in concrete terms?
Marcus Bröhan: toom has been meticulously recording all consumption in the stores for electricity, energy and water for years. Previously, this was done using Excel spreadsheets. Now anyone can log into EHA ONE very easily - using a tablet, MDE device or mobile phone - and enter the values digitally. These go straight into our energy information system and are recorded directly in reports. The store then receives a report on the consumption of its store. This also creates an awareness of how to deal with the topic of energy and of one's own effectiveness. Finally, energy management also receives an aggregated report on consumption in the store.
Sebastian Geitner, EHA
one: Does this mean that recording is simpler and avoids effort?
Sebastian Geitner: That's right. We avoid manual effort and ensure that we have a high quality of data, i.e. very accurate monthly reporting for energy consumption. And there is another advantage: all data is centralised and forms the basis for energy monitoring. They remain with us in Germany and go directly into the analysis, so that the energy managers also have an immediate overview of what is happening in the stores.
one: Is the tool easy to use?
Sebastian Geitner: Yes, it really is very easy to use. To support our customers, there are also short videos and an FAQ so that important questions can be answered quickly.
Peter Mehl
Peter Mehl, store manager at toom Baumarkt DIY store Ahrensburg:
"Basically, using EHA ONE works well. As soon as you have familiarised yourself a little, the system offers an overview and practical operability.
We don't use direct transmission via MDE because we can't establish a wireless connection in the technical rooms and car park. We work with the meter reading sheets provided and manual recording on the PC. The readings are taken by employees in Logistics and I enter them into the system. EHA ONE makes it possible to track consumption at any time and is organised on a monthly basis. This gives us a more detailed overview that can be called up at any time."
Christian Sorge
Christian Sorge, deputy store manager at the toom Baumarkt DIY store in Neustadt in Holstein:
"I'm responsible for the measurements at our store. We've been working with EHA ONE for around six months now. The introduction went completely smoothly - also because we always had the support of EHA when we had questions. The tool definitely makes things easier for me. I enter the data directly with the MDE device, which works perfectly. You go to the counter with the device, read it and the transfer also works great. I just press the button and everything is sent - a great thing!
Another advantage is that I can now always see the comparative figures from the previous month. That way, it would be immediately obvious if there was an oversized consumption somewhere."
