Rain is followed by sunshine - even in summer cinema. The rain falls like buckets in the British natural disaster drama "The End We Start From". In his directorial debut "Problemista", Julio Torres takes us on a journey into shrill, colourful magical realism. And for those who want to be drawn into the dangerously romantic atmosphere of a London tower block, the DVD of "All of Us Strangers" is highly recommended.

It doesn't stop, the rain over Great Britain. While the streets flood and the houses sink, a woman (Jodie Comer) gives birth to her first child.
Telling the end of the world from the perspective of a new mum is unusual, but not illogical. For every woman, from the first cry of her newborn, the world is no longer what it was before. A natural disaster like the one staged by British director Mahalia Belo in "The End We Start From" is not the worst metaphor for this, as it harbours both primal fears and the will to survive.
Jodie Comer
It took Jodie Comer three series to go from extra to leading lady of British television: "My Mad Fat Diary" (2013), "Thirteen - A Stolen Life" (2016) and "The White Princess" (2017). As hitwoman Villanelle in four seasons of the crime series "Killing Eve", the Liverpool native, born in 1993, made TV history, not only as an actress but also in terms of fashion in a pink tulle dress. She makes her West End debut in 2022 with the one-woman play "Prima Facie", which is so successful that she makes her Broadway debut in 2023.

In art and literature, magical realism is when reality merges with dreams. The author, director and actor Julio Torres has conjured up a very colourful prime example of this on the screen with "Problemista".
The film is about Alejandro, a toy inventor from El Salvador, who tries his luck in New York. However, he not only clashes with migration regulations, but also with art critic Elizabeth, who has inherited 13 paintings of eggs from her recently frozen husband. Alejandro has to find a gallery for the paintings.
Julio Torres
The directorial debut of author and comedian Julio Torres, who was born in San Salvador in 1987, comes within a hair's breadth of his own biography. But instead of toys, Torres is all about words, which he knows how to play with brilliantly. He proves this shortly after graduating from a public school in New York by applying to various TV stations as a gag writer. In fact, he ended up working on the world-famous satire show "Saturday Night Live" in 2016 and won four Emmys together with the writing team by 2019.

Adam lives in an abandoned tower block on the outskirts of London. One evening, to his astonishment, the doorbell rings and it is answered by what appears to be his only neighbour, who is also drunk. Adam has no idea what Harry will bring into his life.
"All of Us Strangers" is one of those films that you wouldn't believe are still being made. Slow, quiet, with a cast of just five actors and so full of atmospheric scenes that as a viewer you don't even realise how absorbed you are by a dangerously loving relationship. As an added bonus, you get to see two of the best British actors, Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, in top form.

Harold Halibut is a curious lab assistant and at the same time the title character of this wonderful video game, which was created with the help of modelling clay and motion capturing in the Cologne-based game studio Slow Bros.
