The REWE Green Farming construction project in Berlin-Lankwitz was honoured with the "Climate Protection Partner Berlin" award in the "Innovative Planning" category.
Following the successful launch of the pioneering project in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim, REWE Region East celebrated the start of construction of Germany's second REWE Green Farming store at the end of March. The sustainable and recyclable supermarket concept is to be realised in the south of Berlin (Berlin-Lankwitz) by spring 2026. The store is characterised by its modular timber construction, a glass roof farm, carbon sequestration and local food production. It combines environmental measures such as photovoltaics, rainwater utilisation and demountable timber constructions with state-of-the-art building technology to effectively reduce CO₂ emissions and conserve resources.
This year, 23 projects from Berlin's business community applied for the Climate Protection Partner Berlin award. The jury selected twelve applicants who were able to pitch their projects for the audience award at the ceremony with around 120 guests. The award ceremony took place as part of the Berlin Energy Days at the end of May in the Ludwig Erhard Haus.
