Come-Together-Cup 2024:
Football, fun and diversity
by Lukas Reuten

In the run-up to this year's Come Together Cup on the pitches of the former Müngersdorf stadium, it was not entirely clear whether the weather would hold or whether the forecast downpour would confirm the organisers' worries. In the end, however, the rain failed to materialise, which even ensured a record crowd at this colourful football festival.

25.000 football fans attended the Come-Together Cup in Cologne last Thursday, which celebrated its 30th anniversary. Around 90 amateur teams took part in the women's, men's, mixed and inclusion tournaments and competed for the so-called "fun trophies" in various categories.

The most beautiful mascot ("Fultras") or the most diverse team ("Party Animals") were just two examples of some of the craziest awards.

The highlight was once again the celebrity fun kick, where former footballer Lena Goeßling and comedian Martin Klempnow were joined by Sharks captain Moritz Müller and FC Vice-President Carsten Wettich to showcase their talents.

Pelemele, Knallblech, Cat Ballou and Stefan Brings provided musical entertainment, while the Pink Poms and the StattGarde Colonia Ahoj presented their dancing skills.

The REWE Group has supported the Come Together Cup since 2014 and was once again represented this year with a wide range of activities. In cooperation with the internal LGBTIQ network di.to., various teams were once again entered in the tournament. Unfortunately, the men did not make it past the group stage. The mixed team of the REWE Group di.to. kickers reached the round of 16.

The di.to colleagues were also on site with their own drinks stand in aid of Aidshilfe Köln and anyway e.V.. The REWE food truck also provided the players and visitors with free healthy snacks and smoothies on this great day to celebrate diversity.
