To make DIY easier for people with disabilities, toom and Lebenshilfe have developed the "DIY made easy" series of brochures. Following on from the first two, the third is now available in plain language with the main topic of "Climate protection and nature conservation in the garden and household".
Promoting the participation of people with disabilities in society is a central concern of toom. This is why toom is not only committed to inclusion in its stores, but also in projects that are planned centrally and implemented nationwide in cooperation with the German Lebenshilfe association. As an overarching joint project, two brochures on the topic of "DIY made easy" have already been produced in plain language. Now comes the third brochure in the series on the subject of climate and nature conservation.

As a DIY company, it is a matter of course for toom to empower people to do it themselves. Everyone should have the same opportunity to find out about these issues from reliable sources and take action. The third brochure therefore deals with various topics relating to climate and nature conservation in the garden and household.
For example, it deals with the conscious selection of plants, how to properly build a watering place for insects, peat-free and poison-free gardening or what can be done in the household to save energy and water. How these aspects contribute to the protection of the environment and are linked to the major issues of climate change, moorland protection and biodiversity is also explained in an easily understandable way. In order to base this information on reliable, independent knowledge about climate and nature conservation, the "National Natural Landscapes" association has contributed to this edition.
"We are delighted and proud to be able to publish another brochure in plain language together with Lebenshilfe and the National Natural Landscapes. After all, climate change affects everyone in our society and people with disabilities also want to play an active role in protecting the environment. The brochure combines the major socially important topics with practical tips for your own environmentally conscious actions in a simple way," says Dominique Rotondi, Managing Director Purchasing and Logistics and responsible for Sustainability at toom Baumarkt DIY store.
Lebenshilfe is committed to helping people with intellectual disabilities and supports and accompanies around 170,000 people with disabilities and their relatives with almost 500 local and regional associations. Because all people should be able to participate in social life on an equal footing. And this also applies to issues such as climate and environmental protection. toom and Lebenshilfe have been working together since 2014 - through joint projects, internships and external workshop jobs for people with disabilities. The common goal: a lively exchange and the removal of barriers for people with disabilities - particularly with regard to the labour market.
"Whether it's inclusion and participation, barrier-free language or climate and nature conservation - everything that moves us and society forward can only be achieved through cooperation between a wide range of stakeholders. We are delighted that this cooperation with toom Baumarkt DIY store has been so successful time and time again - and has been for almost ten years now!" says Jeanne Nicklas-Faust, Federal Managing Director of Lebenshilfe.
